Currency Pairs

Currency pairs

A world of trading opportunities

Ideal for short-term trading

Currencies are an ideal instrument for day trading and are increasingly popular among small investors and speculators. Using leverage, they have the potential to generate profits over short periods, on both downward and upward trends.

Major Currency Pairs

EUR/USD, USD/JPY, GBP/USD, USD/CHF

The 4 most frequently traded pairs, called the "Majors" represent the currencies of the world's largest and most influential economies, with the addition of the Swiss Franc, due to its importance as a reserve currency. The spreads on these pairs are usually tight thanks to the high trade volume and liquidity. This allows traders to reap profits even on small movements.

Emerging Currency Pairs

USD/CNH, USD/MXN, USD/RUB, USD/ZAR

Emerging Currency Pairs, also known as Exotic Currency Pairs, include currencies from emerging markets. While Swissquote still offers competitive conditions on those, the spreads tend to be wider than on Major Currency Pairs, due to lower liquidity. They are however efficient instruments to capitalize on a variety of economic and geopolitical events.
